These are our kids. In Hawaii, when you take in a kid and love them as your own, they are called "hanai". On the far left is Gen Asano. He is 16 yrs old and we've known him for about 6 years or so. We met him in Waikiki and he just learned to surf. He became close friends with my boys and now... he is part of the family! He sleeps over every weekend and goes surfing with us. From a very scared kid, not wanting to venture out of Waikiki, he surfed today at Pipe after PIPELINE 101 lecture from my brother, Kirby! ha. So he went out on a big day and I was very proud of him!
